RESIDENTIAL ADDICTION TREATMENT

“Thorpe Recovery Centre truly gave me my life back. When I walked through those doors, I was lost—but the compassion from the staff made me feel safe and seen right away. They never judged me. They genuinely cared.
The one-on-one counselling sessions were a huge part of my healing. My counsellor helped me dig deep, understand the root of my struggles, and gave me tools to start rebuilding. The nursing team as well as the community support workers made me feel heard and supported every step of the way.
Thorpe is the place where I found connection with others who fully understood what I was going through. That kind of support is something I never knew I needed so badly.”

WHAT TYPES OF ADDICTION DO WE TREAT?

The Thorpe Recovery Centre’s Core Program focuses on treating chemical dependencies, including drug and alcohol addiction. In addition to this, Thorpe also specializes in process addictions—compulsive behaviors that continue despite harmful consequences. These include gambling, sex addiction, and disordered eating.

PROGRAMMING

Clients are expected to participate in the scheduled programming each day during treatment. Programming includes lectures, group therapy, counselling, and other therapeutic activities explicitly designed to assist in building a life of recovery.
Each client, with their counsellor, develops a treatment plan that helps the client achieve their goals while in treatment. The program is constructed into modules that contain activities and assignments the client completes to move forward in their specialized treatment plan:
• Addiction & Recovery
• Disordered Eating
• Grief
• Problem Gambling
• Raising Self Awareness
• Relapse Prevention
• Relationships
• Sex Addictions
• Spirituality
• Understanding Personal Trauma

HOW LONG IS RESIDENTIAL ADDICTION TREATMENT?

Residential Addiction Treatment is currently a 42-day program.

HOW DO I GET INTO RESIDENTIAL ADDICTION TREATMENT?

We have private pay beds and beds that the Alberta and Saskatchewan Health Authorities fund. Due to this, there is a waitlist for treatment. Please contact your addiction counsellor or our admissions office to begin the admission process.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER RESIDENTIAL ADDICTION TREATMENT?

We highly recommend enrolling in the TRC Continuing Care Program for a comprehensive continuum of care. Research has shown that post-treatment continuing care programs increase an individual’s chance for sustained recovery by 70%.

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

We recommend all attendees prepare for treatment by attending 12-step or other support groups before starting the program.

12-STEP RECOVERY
Initially established by Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), the 12-Step Recovery method is a world-renowned support group style that supports those recovering from different chemical and process addictions.

S.M.A.R.T. RECOVERY
S.M.A.R.T. Recovery is a non-12-step self-help program for recovery from addictive behaviours such as chemical dependencies and/or process addictions. Based on cognitive behavioural therapies, its purpose is to support individuals by teaching them how to change self-defeating thinking, emotions, and actions to attain long-term goals in recovery.

ADMISSIONS

The admissions team is ready to help and provide information by phone and email. They will speak with you to help determine the situation, funding options, addiction history and health status of the potential client. Admissions requests can be made by individuals, family members, physicians, employers, and addiction counsellors. Thorpe Recovery Centre has a rolling admission structure that schedules intakes Monday-Friday at 8:30 AM.

This means that clients begin treatment as soon as funding is established, and a bed is available.
